Hyatt Library
A Place of Dedication
The Hyatt Library was dedicated to the Department of Exercise and Sport Science in memory of Dr. Ronald W. Hyatt on September 20, 2010. The library is located in Woollen Gymnasium (Room 310), and is open daily for students from 7am- 1:00 pm for quiet study and enjoyment of Dr. Hyatt’s wonderful collection of books and dvds. Faculty must reserve the room for thesis meetings or group projects from 1:00-5:00pm. Dr. Hyatt was a professor in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science and served our great University with distinction for over 40 years before his death on June 13, 2007. A native of Latta, S. C., Dr. Hyatt earned degrees from Furman University (BS), and UNC-Chapel Hill (MA and PhD). Prior to coming to Chapel Hill in 1966, he coached, taught and directed intramural programs at the high school and collegiate levels in both South Carolina and North Carolina. Dr. Hyatt became the intramural sports director and assistant professor of physical education at UNC-Chapel Hill in 1966, and later became a full professor. Dr. Hyatt touched the lives of thousands of Carolina students.
The Hyatt Library contains a collection of books ranging from the History of Sports to History of North Carolina to the depiction of Sport in Art and Architecture. There are many books on each individual type of sport from Football to windsurfing and everything in between.
