Alain Aguilar began at UNC in 2008. He is currently serving as a lecturer and as the Director of the Fitness Professional Concentration within the department of exercise and sport science. His teaching focuses on theory and application of strength training and conditioning for fitness professionals and performance enhancement in athletic populations. Aside from his faculty responsibilities he also works as the varsity Men’s Soccer team as their Athletic Trainer. He helps the athletes recover from injuries/surgeries and was a part of their 2011 National Championship team.

Prior to working for UNC he served as Assistant and Head Athletic Trainer at Saint Augustine’s College (2006-2008) in Raleigh, NC. He provided health care to all athletes in sixteen varsity sports.

Alain has a masters degree in Exercise and Sport Science with a specialization in Athletic Training from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2004-2006). During that time he worked as a graduate assistant with the Volleyball, Men’s Lacrosse, and Fencing teams. His undergraduate degree is from The Ohio State University where he was an Athletic Training Student (2001-2004). Aside from being a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) he is a Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES), Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), and Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. He is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. In addition, he has completed the basic training module for the Graston Technique and is a Certified Biomechanics Trainer through Intelligent Training Systems.

He is a native of Columbus, Ohio. He, his wife Jennifer, and their sons Coby (3 years) and Ethan (6 months) reside in Durham. In his down time he enjoys spending time with his family and participating in his church.
