Residential Living

Most students choose to live in Chapel Hill apartment communities and nearby Durham for commuting ease. Many apartment complexes cater to the student with amenities such as wi-fi, fitness centers, and planned social activities. For more information about graduate student housing options, visit UNC’s Housing website as well as local real estate agents who cater to students. Feel free to email our current students for the scoop on this. You might even find your UNC roommate.

Residency Benefit

Students who are North Carolina residents get a substantial reduction in their tuition. To qualify as an in-state student, a student must prove residency for a full year in North Carolina. For more information and application procedures for this important financial benefit, contact Dr. Edgar Shields (shields@email.unc.edu) or go to UNC’s Residency Information.

Recreation and the Arts

Recreation and the arts are alive and well in Chapel Hill and the surrounding Triangle region. Visit UNC’s Campus and Community Resource Guide website for more information about fun activities available for you when a little R&R is needed.

Transportation

Parking is at a premium on campus but Chapel Hill bus transportation is free, with a bus stop conveniently located directly in front of the Student Recreation Center, adjacent to Fetzer Gym. For more information about parking and bus routes, visit UNC’s Transportation.
