The College Sport Research Institute (CSRI) at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is a nonprofit organization involving faculty from across the United States and around the world. CSRI is committed to supporting independent data collection and analysis related to college-sport issues.

The need for CSRI was best articulated on January 5, 2007, by NCAA President Myles Brand, who noted: "There is little that frustrates me more than critics of college sports who get the facts wrong... I challenge the critics of college sports, in the media and on campus, to get their facts right... Meeting the challenges of intercollegiate athletics requires an informed, engaged faculty."(2007 NCAA Convention)

In addition to sponsoring the annual Scholarly Conference on College Sport, CSRI sustains graduate-student research related to college sport through the William C. Friday Graduate Student Research Award.
